Academy Award Nominee John Madden is back with “Miss Sloane”, an intense political thriller that delivers and I was very impressed with the result.
“Miss Sloane” tells the story of Elizabeth Sloane (Jessica Chastain) a ruthless and ambitious lobbyst in Washington D.C. who’s well known for winning at all costs even if she uses dirty tricks as a resource.
Eveything will change for Miss Sloane when she is presented with agun bill proposal that every single person can carry a weapon without a passing a background check. She refuses and quits the firm that she works.
Now the members of the firm led by George Dupont (Sam Waterston) and Pat Connors (Michael Stuhlbarg) will do anything in their power to take down Miss Sloane even if it means to put her in prison.
Now Elizabeth will have one her most difficult challenges of her career and she will put everything on the line.
“Miss Sloane” not only is a movie that is brilliantly directed by John Madden, who is well known for playing with different genres of movies and here what is brilliant is that he knew how manipulate the audience and was very smart on that.
The script written by first time writer Jonathan Perera is sharp and precise and is one of the best dialogue I`ve seen in a while and it reminds me of how Aaron Sorkin, who is considered one of the best writers in Hollywood in how he writes dialogue.
The movie is a hard criticism towards the American Political System and it was released after an intense election that we had in America recently and this is a movie that reflects how american politics are in reality.
Jessica Chastain, again delivers a wonderful performance and portrays Elizabeth Sloane with so much realism that by moments you feel identified with her but at the same time you can see that this woman has no limits in tems of winning and goes to far.
This is one of the best performances I’ve seen from her in a while and I hope that she can nail an Academy Award Nomination for this magnificent performance.
Other great performances were from Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Stuhlbarg and Sam Waterston who played their characters with so much realism and they are even more vicious than Chastain’s character.
Besides being a movie about the political system in America at the same time it is a full frontal reflection of the obsession with something and you can suffer the consequences ofit.
The third act of the film is one the best that I’ve seen in a while and has one of the greatest reversals I`ve seen recently in film.
John Madden directed another winning picture, Jonathan Perera couldn’t start his career better with a magnificent and brilliant screenplay about politics in America and Jessica Chastain is confirmed as one of the most talented actresses that are in the industry today.
“Miss Sloane” is one of the years best thrillers of this year and I give it a huge recommendation for the direction by Madden and Performances of the cast.
