About Me
Emilio Frenk was born in Ann Arbor Michigan on December 7th 1980 and grew up mostly in Mexico City.
Coming from a family of artists, musicians and physicians, he discovered at a young age his passion and love for film.
He started to watch movies from Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese among many others and begin to analyze them from a critical perspective.
He completed his Bachelor's Degree in Mass Media Communications in both Universidad del Valle de México in Mexico City and Universidad Europea de Madrid in Madrid Spain.
After his time in college, he started working for the Mexican television network TV Azteca for several years where he collaborated with the sports area and covered events like the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 South Africa World Cup.
His continuing fascination with movies motivated him to understand deeply the art of film, and he decided to study a Master´s in Fine Arts on Filmmaking in the New York Film Academy both in the New York City and the Los Angeles campuses where he graduated in 2012.
He is currently working on several projects, which he is writing and eventually plans to direct. He also participates as a freelance in other projects, working primarily as a script supervisor and consultant.
In addition to his filmmaking, Emilio collaborated as a guest critic with Reforma, the leading newspaper in Mexico. He writers a personal film blog called "Talking Film", where he analyzes the most recent movies, along with the most current and relevant topics in the film industry.
On November 28th of 2022, Emilio released his first book “Vision: A Retrospective in Film 1980-1999” in the International Book Fair in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
This book covers 100 films that influenced him both as a Filmmaker and a Film Critic. Currently he is working in the English version and a Second book that will also cover 100 films from 2000 to 2020.
